A FIGHTWORX ACADEMY INITIATIVE

FORGING STRONGER FUTURES

Martial arts-based youth development programmes designed to build confidence, resilience, discipline and positive engagement.

The Forge Project works in partnership with local authorities, schools, youth services and other professional organisations to provide structured, engaging programmes for children and young adults.

Through martial arts, physical training and positive mentorship, we create an environment in which young people can be challenged, supported and encouraged to make meaningful progress.

MORE THAN MARTIAL ARTS

USING TRAINING AS A VEHICLE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE

The Forge Project was created by Fightworx Academy to harness the unique benefits of martial arts and structured physical training to support young people who may benefit from a different approach.

For some young people, traditional environments and interventions don't always generate engagement.

Martial arts offers something different.

It is physical, practical and engaging. It creates clear boundaries, measurable progression and achievable challenges while naturally developing qualities such as discipline, resilience, accountability, confidence and respect.

Our objective isn't to teach young people how to fight.

Training is the vehicle. Personal development is the goal.

WHO WE WORK WITH

BESPOKE SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS

The Forge Project works with referring organisations supporting children and young adults who may benefit from additional structure, positive engagement and mentorship.

This may include young people experiencing:

  • Low confidence or self-esteem

  • Difficulties engaging with education

  • Behavioural challenges

  • Lack of routine or structure

  • Social isolation

  • Difficulty regulating emotions

  • Low levels of physical activity

  • Limited positive role models

  • Risk of exclusion or disengagement

  • A lack of direction or positive goals

We recognise that every referral is different.

Our programmes can therefore be adapted around the individual, their circumstances and the objectives identified by the referring organisation.

OUR APPROACH

TRAIN. BUILD. BELONG. PROGRESS.

TRAIN

Structured martial arts and physical training provides an engaging environment in which participants can learn new skills, improve physical fitness and experience tangible progression.

BUILD

Training creates opportunities to develop confidence, discipline, resilience, accountability and self-belief through achievable challenges and consistent reinforcement.

BELONG

Fightworx provides a positive environment built around teamwork, mutual respect and community, with experienced coaches providing consistent boundaries and positive role models.

PROGRESS

The skills developed through training are intended to extend beyond the gym. encouraging improved engagement, greater personal responsibility and a more positive approach to challenges in everyday life.

HOW WE DELIVER THE PROGRAMME

FLEXIBLE. STRUCTURED. INDIVIDUAL.

The Forge is not designed as a one-size-fits-all programme.

We work with referring organisations to understand the needs of the young person and establish an appropriate format and set of objectives.

ONE-TO-ONE PROVISION

Individual sessions with an experienced Fightworx coach provide a highly personalised environment.

Sessions can be adapted around confidence, ability, engagement and agreed objectives, while allowing the coach to develop consistency, trust and rapport with the participant.

SMALL GROUP PROVISION

Small group programmes combine structured martial arts training with opportunities to develop teamwork, communication and positive peer relationships.

These can be particularly effective for organisations wishing to work with a defined cohort over an agreed period.

BESPOKE PROGRAMMES

We can work with commissioning and referring organisations to develop programmes around specific requirements, cohorts and intended outcomes.

Provision can range from short interventions through to regular ongoing engagement.

WHY MARTIAL ARTS?

CHALLENGE IN A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT

Martial arts provides a unique platform for personal development.

Participants encounter challenges, setbacks and success in a structured environment where boundaries are clear and progress is earned.

They learn to listen to instruction.

They learn that improvement requires consistency.

They learn how to respond when something doesn't go their way.

They experience achievement through effort.

And, importantly, they have the opportunity to develop a positive relationship with coaches who can become consistent and constructive role models.

The lessons learned through training can therefore reach far beyond physical ability.

Resilience. Discipline. Respect. Confidence. Accountability. Perseverance.

These are skills for life.
